The U.S. vs. John Lennon (Os EUA x John Lennon) é um documentário que mostra o lado ativista de John Lennon.

Nesse documentário existem imagens do músico juntando milhares de pessoas para protestar contra a Guerra do Vietnã. No documentário aparece ainda uma suposta tentativa do governo dos Estados Unidos de espionar Lennon.

É impossível falar na história da música popular no século XX sem falar em John Lennon (1940-1980) e no legado de sua obra com os Beatles e em carreira solo.

Mas este documentário aborda uma outra faceta memorável de John: sua vida como ativista político. Entre as décadas de 1960 e 1970 usou sua influência (e sua arte) para contestar as ações do governo dos Estados Unidos, principalmente no que se referia a Guerra do Vietnã.

O músico se aliou a líderes de esquerda, passou a apoiar o Movimento dos Panteras Negras e bateu de frente com o presidente Richard Nixon.

Lennon chegou a ser perseguido pelo FBI e expulso dos EUA por quase dois anos, mas se manteve fiel às suas convicções, sem nunca deixar de pedir uma chance para paz.

Em novembro de 1973, John Lennon lançava Mind Games, seu quarto LP após o fim dos Beatles; e o primeiro produzido inteiramente por ele mesmo. "Na época, este álbum teve um sucesso relativamente bom, ficando em nono lugar entre os mais vendidos durante três semanas nos Estados Unidos, segundo a Billboard. Na Inglaterra, o álbum mal conseguiu ficar em no.19 por uma semana. Sucesso comercial de lado, Mind Games consegue ser um de seus álbuns mais reflexivos, porém sem a amargura e tormento ou excessiva neurose revolucionária demonstrados em discos anteriores.

Mind Games consegue ser leve como o álbum Imagine, porém sem a orquestração e produção típica de Phil Spector, o que neste caso, faz bem ao trabalho. O álbum é também repleto de trocadilhos e expressões idiomáticas inglesas e americanas.

Encontra-se aqui rocks filosóficos, composições acústicas e baladas românticas, ao mesmo tempo em que se oferece letras interessantes, sempre associados ao amor e ideologias pacifistas. O tema central é essencialmente a conscientização da sociedade da necessidade de homens e mulheres dividirem igualmente as responsabilidades do mundo e de suas vidas, em harmonia.
